I started The Intelligent Academic™ because I saw a growing gap between the rapid advancement of AI and the practical needs of faculty on the ground. We are bombarded with headlines about AI, but we are given very little guidance on how to use it responsibly and effectively in our own teaching and research.

My name is Billy Oglesby and I’ve spent over 25 years in academia teaching courses, conducting research, and being a good University citizen. I’ve also built programs, colleges, and research institutes; served in several academic leadership positions; and led initiatives at the local, state, national, and international levels. As AI began to reshape the information landscape, I dedicated myself to understanding not just the technology, but its real-world application in my particular discipline and in academia, in general.

This publication is the result of that work. It is a place for evidence-based strategies, honest tool reviews, and thoughtful discussion about the future of higher education in an age of artificial intelligence. Views expressed are my own.
